Stylistic Cristal activities involve lamp production, transport and installation. Thanks to many years of experience we are able to help in choosing an appropriate chandelier. A frequent problem while choosing a lamp is its height, which has to match the height and the intended use of the room accordingly. Today we will tell you more about anchoring a lamp to the ceiling ad calculating the total height of a chandelier.
Height of a lamp from the catalogue
The height of the lamp given in the catalogue and the price lit is the height of the sole construction together with the crystal, measured from the upper part of the lamp (in this case the glass plate) to the crystal that is hung the lowest (see pic. 1).
The total lamp height that should be considered while designing a interior is the lamp height from the catalogue plus the length of the chain on which the lamp will be hung as well as the height of the ceiling lining.
Lamp fixed on a chain
As we have already mentioned, chandeliers are fixed to the ceiling most often with the help of a chain.
Standardly, in smaller lamp models, a 50 cm long chain is used, whereas in bigger chandeliers a 100 cm long chain is used. Of course, the length of the chain can be changed upon the client’s wish. The height and the intended use of the room in which the lamp is to be hung matter a lot obviously.
What constitutes the total lamp height
Apart from the height of the sole structure of the lamp and the length of the chain, we can not forget to factor in the height of the ceiling lining.
In the pictures (pic. 5 and 6) we can see the total lamp height which includes also the ceiling lining.
Summarizing the given example (pic. 6): the total height of the socket with the anchoring is: structure (450 mm) + chain (500 mm) + ceiling lining (100 mm) which gives 960 mm (therefore ca. 1 m) of the total lamp height.
What lamp height should be chosen?
The lamp height should be chosen according to the size (height) and intended use of the room.
In case of lower rooms, the chain can be shortened accordingly to a desired height. However, we should also remember that is not recommended to fix the lamps Maria Teresa without a chain, on the sole ceiling lining. The light bulbs in this case would be too close to the ceiling, which will look unattractively.
For very low rooms we recommend lamps of Plafon type. You can read more about fixing them in the article on fixing these lamps.
For high interiors the lamp height should be chosen in such a way that it would not interfere the usage and it should simultaneously be on such a height to please the eye and illuminate the room well. In the article on fixing lamps from the collection Maria Teresa we also wrote about selecting the appropriate chain length depending on the intended use of the room.
For very high rooms (e.g. for entresols, staircases) tall lamps of Spirala type will be a perfect match, more on which soon.
